got milk?

Well ... I did yet another new thing today. I attempted to milk a cow. Yes, I overcame my psycological barriers of having to touch the cow -there- and pull and squeeze her -there-, but only after asking for assurance that I would not be hurting her ... twice. I know you farmers out there are probably laughing your socks off by now, but it's a true concern for a girl of 30 who has never done it before!

First, Mada washes off the teets with water.

Mrs. Florica then shows Mrs. Robyn and I how to do it properly, while Mada holds Rosie's tale back. You know, that would be bad to be swatted in the face with a poo covered tail when all your trying to do is get a little milk!

Mrs. Robyn "tries her hand at it" -HA- and did a fairly good job!

I tried it ... after my moments of hesitation ... and eventually got a stream about the size of a loose hair from my head. It was rather embarrassing. I can only imagine what was going through poor Rosie's mind ...

Mrs. Florica took over and finished the job. She filled the entire red bucket in about 5 minutes. She told us that the cow could give her about 10 liters of milk a day. Both Rosie and Viola (another cow) are expecting calves in July. Oh, yeah ... see how nice Mrs. Robyn is ... now she's holding the poo covered fly swatter. =] Don't forget to wash your hands!
